I saw some pickled red onions somewhere, used as a garnish much like I have it here. I looked around and found this recipe and made up an onion’s worth of it. I tossed in an anise star in addition to the allspice berries and the cloves and it turned out OK but I think then next batch will be just the onion with vinegar and salt. The recipe with the spices and sugar made them too… something.
The sammich is smoked pork, the side of fried onion rings came from the frozen foods aisle. I deep fried them for a few minutes because they are crispier that way, rather than baking them in the oven.
