These are also known as Indian tacos. I saw these elsewhere a while back and decided to go with them today. I cooked some chorizo and ground beef earlier for chili and thought I might have a bit much so I did a part of it with taco seasonings. I wasn’t sure about the bread part but a search led me to the Pioneer Woman’s recipe page where she spells it all out for you with pictures and droll prose.
Be sure to heed her advice on the wait time, let the dough rest a while. These plumped nicely and were pretty good tasting. I used lard and Crisco to fry mine, too. I made too many, next time I will downsize the recipe. It breaks out to 1 tsp baking powder and a rounded 1/8th tsp of salt per cup of flour, mix each cup of flour with 1/4 cup of milk and enough extra water to form a dough ball. That should be enough for two pieces about 4-5″ in diameter. Cinnamon sugar or honey would be awesome on these!
