A Great Blue Heron visits the pond on occasion. These are some of the largest birds seen commonly in this area, certainly the tallest, the big white Egrets will give them a run for the biggest/tallest bird. Turkeys are pretty big, too, but they aren’t nearly as leggy.
Here’s a good look at a whitetail buck in velvet. The velvet covers the growing antlers and supplies the blood borne nutrients they need. Sometime soon the growth will cease and the deer will start rubbing their antlers against small shrubs and trees to remove the dead velvet. Plays hell on small ornamental trees unless steps are taken to protect them. I have cages built around my small trees after learning that lesson the hard way.
