It’s been a whirlwind 24 hours. A friend of a friend found this Great Dane wandering around her neighborhood yesterday afternoon. It’s been in the minus degrees for the past two nights. He’s completely emaciated, with lots of sores on his legs and hips. I doubt he would have made it another night if she hadn’t found him.
A mad scramble to see if he was chipped and to find him a foster home instead of the shelter and he ended up with me.
He’ll be here until he’s healed up and put on some weight. I’m going to tell you, whoever had him, had him in a crate that was too small and he was in the crate for too long. I have put the more disturbing photos below the fold. Continue reading
Scout is a year old today. Here’s her one week photo:
And her official 8-week photo when she came to live with us: Continue reading
Cool Gabe is making lots of progress. He’s now wandering the entire house and has joined us on the couch. As long as Scout isn’t too rowdy, he’s happy to spend time with the dogs. He and Bixby are everything right now. Gabe just loves him. I believe he Continue reading
For some reason over the past few weeks, the ducks have decided I’m their person. They’ve always wanted me to pick them up at night, carry them to the coop and give them a scritch before putting them up for the night. But much like finicky cats, I had to chase them down to get all that done.
Now, they come to the patio door for treats, eat food out of my hands and often run over to me when I come outside (and OMG, watching those little legs running will brighten any day).
We are having a horrible raccoon problem and they also now see the dogs as their heroes, as they chase those meanies out of the yard.
Ducks sure make a yard cheery.
I was going through, trying to sort photos and came across this one. Then I remembered Emma turned fifteen this August. The photo was just a few weeks after I found her at the shelter. She was my birthday present that year. She’s still as pretty and also still pretty tiny. But she’s my Great Dane girl. Happiest when she has a Great Dane to boss around.
One time, Bailey and Bixby were getting into it, I don’t remember why, and she came tearing down the hall to protect her Bixby. Jumped right in the middle of the fracas. They are never far from each other these days. She tolerates Scout, but Bixby is her boy.
I have told her she must live to be 21.
Ms Bea is temporarily overcome but she got over it.
